This day

I worked with my students in hip openers and then lifted with a nice hand stand.

I worked in being present while I ate today. I have been for a long time a reader eater. Following a simple ayurvedic principle I paid attention to what I ate while I was ate it. Usually the most attention lunch gets is while I’m packing it in the morning.

OK, I ate dinner just now in front of my computer. *:)

I am beginning a month long look at my first Chakra, Muladhara. So far I see I lean towards excessive.

I feel I just need to thin my root, like when you re-pot a plant that is root bound, so I will have more room to grow.

I think that means letting go of some stuff, passing along or delegating. (letting go and delegating yikes!)

Today as a hair stylist I will stay grounded, but try to keep my energy light and lofty. I’m seeing an amaryllis “Pink Lady”, big bulb one flower reaching high.

What flower are you today?

Begin with a gentle warm – up for your hamstrings.  We’ll go through 3 simple exercises you can do throughout your day.

*Always remember, you should NEVER feel any sharp pain, only a wonderful stretch.

After your warm-up, you can get into deeper stretches for your hamstrings and work your way into the splits.  A little patience, patractice and good head on your shoulders will help you easily achieve your goals.

Your posture can greatly affect your circulation and your breathing rate which can lead to power energy levels.  With the wear and tear of the day one can easily find oneself slouching in their desks with ones shoulders hunched over.  With the poor posture one adds shallow breathing which limits the oxygen to the mind and leads to slower & foggier thinking.

By simply opening your chest and opening your heart, you will greatly improve your posture allowing yourself to take a deeper fuller breathe.  With the improved posture it will improve your circulation and lead to many benefits such as improved focus, concentration and help you feel great!

Here’s a few fun exercises that you can do throughout the day to open your heart.

Morning: Forward Bend against the Wall

-Place your hand shoulder height against a wall or counter top.

-Step a large step backwards with your hips over your legs at a right angle.

-Begin with your knees loose as you enjoy 10 deep full breathes.

-To go deeper into the pose, simply straighten your legs.

Afternoon: Hands Behind Your Head

-Interlace your fingertips behind your head, press your head against your hands.

-Reach your elbows away from each other as you open your heart up towards the sky.

-Enjoy 10 deep breathes here.

-Repeat with your other hand on top.

Evening: Back Opener with Blanket

1. Energizing Back Opener

-Roll a blanket or towel wide enough for your shoulders.

-Place blanket parallel under your shoulder blades.

-Open your arms up shoulder width

-Relax and breathe during your favorite song

2. Restorative Back Opener

-Place blanket long against your spine.

-Open your arms up shoulder width

-Relax and breathe

A couple minutes in the morning, noon or afternoon can greatly improve your posture and circulation.  With the bigger deeper breathes you’ll enjoy more energy throughout your day.
